I have this really thick straight stringy red hair and I have almost given up.It is just so annoying to have to constantly brush my hair. Please somebody give me some an answer.

i know this will sound totally crazy but trust me this works. First put some 'herbal escence totally twist gel' and then take a ceramic straightner and put your hair between the ceramic irons but curl your hair at the same time. Don't just pull the ceramic iron through your hair like you want to straighten it but twist a part of your hair on one of the iron pads and close it and keep it for 10 seconds or so and then let it open slowly. DON'T DRAG THE IRON but JUST OPEN IT AND TAKE IT OUT OF THAT PART OF YOUR HAIR. Trust me it worked for me and it stayed with me till i showered next morning. It was totally cool. My friends were like 'omg! what did you do to your hair!?!' I told them i used a straightener and they were all gawking and telling me that i can never use a straightener for curling hair. She probably used a curling iron in her hair but you could try hot rollers. There are some that use steam and some that are electric. But, probably, if you don't want to use a curling iron, I would say rollers would be your next best bet. Put them around your head vertically, so they are making spirals, not so that they would cutl your hair under. Wrap them small and tight so that if they do start to fall during the day there is more curl left to hang on to. If they are real loose and they flatten out, they will be just that, flat.

Well there is scrunch drying. You could wet your hair and put mousse in it and then dry it whilst scrunching your hair up to wards the roots. Once its dry leave it and if it starts to straighten again then get a little mroe mouse and use your hand to scrunch it again. It will go a bit sticky but if its the look you want then you gotta pay at least some price hehe!

The other option is using 'rags' you need help though and to leave it over night and it doesnt always work out right. Take small sections of hair and wrap them round bendy rollers that you can buy in most beauty stores. Do this all over your hair and then preferably sleep to allow your hair to dry and in the morning remove them and use your fingers to loosen the curls.

ok, two suggestions. i have the same kind of hair and was never able to curl it really, it always fell flat. one, its to get hot rollers. plug them in when you get up and in about 10 minutes theyre ready to use. putthem in your hair in no order at all, it works best this way and do it quick and messy. go about getting ready until theyre cool, take them out and immediately use hair spray on your hair. your hair will look really big and poofy at first, but in about 20 minutes itll tone down and look wavy and full. i know you said you dont want to use a curling iron, but i found one at walmart that is 2 pronged and you just slide the hair into it and move it down the length of the hair and its immediately wavy and cute. it looks jsut like the second picture. after, i hairspray and it stays like that all day really well. heres a link for a similar one, i couldnt find the same one online

I use exctasy straightener with ion frizz eliminating straightening cream. it works reallyyy well especially the actual straightener. Wash you hair and than either blow-dry it, or let it air dry(what I do). Than brush through you dry hair with a big bristle brush. It really gets Thru all the tangles. Beware your hair might become huge, mine does. Then take a tiny section and apply the cream to it from root to tip. After get the straightener, which you should set to 12 the highest level, and make sure its fully hot.(about 3-5 minutes to fully heat.) Than straighten from root to tip, and then do it twice more. Once your done apply a little more cream to your whole head and comb thru your silky,straight hair! I use to straighten my hair like 3 days a week, but now I do it once a month, if that. Remember straightening hair, especially hair as think as ours can really damage the hair.

my hairs like that too. i just used to straighten it everyday but now when i wash it i dont completely wash the conditioner out so my hair is a little softer when it dries and its not as rough.. but you should just buy a good ceramic straightener. gold plates are the best. they arent too expensive, just dont get a really cheap one though. thats the only way to keep your hair straight unless you want to spend alot of money for the japanese straightening technique they have at some places.. they can put chemicals in your hair so it stays straight for a REALLY long time and it works, but its very expensive. you can look it up on google and stuff.. but i suggest just get a ceramic heat hair straightener. thats the way to go. hope i helped!

Try getting your hair "relaxed" (chemically straightened). If you don't want to go the relaxed route, buy a ceramic flat iron, any hair product that protects your hair from heat damage and one that is for straightening. I use Pink hair lotion, it leaves my hair soft and shiny after ironing it.

I eventually had to learn to just live with the fact that my hair is curly. Straightening naturally very curly hair is just as hard as keeping straight hair curly. It is alot of work, so mabe instead of trying to straighten it, try to get your curls as beautiful as possible.

I dont know any good straightening solutions, but heres curly hair tips.

Curly hair is delicate hair, and as long as you have the frizz under control, it is beautiful (frizz is something that caused me alot of grief for years).

You should deep condition at least once a week. In other words, leave conditioner in for 30min to an hour, and let the conditioner do its job. For the rest of the week If possible, conditon at least once every two days, everyday even better. Use moisturising shampoos and conditioners, and condition more than you shampoo. It will take a while, but your hair will repair and go soft if you keep it up. If frizz is a problem, i recomend any product with silicon (i use sunsilk, it works wonders).

When my sister straightens her hair in the morning, the ends curl and she is constantly trying to aim for the same look like you are wanting too. Shower and blow try your hair. Different hairstyles suit ppl differently. N long straight hair do attracts lots of attention (i totally agree). Heard that occasionally trimming helps the hair grows faster. As to how they maintain their hair, i think hair products frm those hair saloon helps alot. However, these products are much more expensive than those hair range products outside.

i'm a very straight female, and even i think it's beautiful, but not all women can pull it off and maintain it.. sometimes it gets to a length where it's just all nappy with split ends.... get a good shampoo, good conditioner, and don't blowdry.

I always thought that long hair was extermely beautiful but like you said it's also exteremly hard to mantain. I think that if you give it a good brush daily, watch out for split ends, and have good shampoo and conditioner it should be fine. If all else fails ask Repunzel !!! ;)

If your hair is curly try combing a perm through it, wait just a few minutes and wash it out and then when you wash your hair use Tide detergent and that will dry your oily hair out. I used to get oily hair alot, so wash your hair every bloody day. I also color my hair and I've found that since then it's no longer oily. Blond's are prone to have oily hair. If you have a hair str8ner use that. For shine.. most of them can make your hair not only feel oily but look it too. I use Gloss drops from Priceline it only $15. So wash your hair everyday, maybe change shampoo's and use conditioner 2 most people don't. I use Fructis Garnier brands and they are fab. I use colour lock as my hair is black at the mo. Darker hair reflecks shine so you may not need to make your hair shiny at all.

I had to deal with the same hard to manage hair with my daughter. Hers was that way from toddler age. I had the hardest time wrapping it around a roller! We found that the little pink sponge rollers were best for daily use with a good gel. For special things like prom we would use hot sticks and gel for curls that would last all night! She was in pageants and did gymnastic and jazz and it stayed curled until after the crowning! Don't use hot sks or curling irons daily because your hair will break so badly if it is like her hair. She used Fizz-ease to help with split ends and conditioned well every hair washing.Believe me we tried everything and the old timey pink sponge rollers curls the ends for flippy and kept it in better condition than anything. If you just want flip,don't use gel and roll it a little damp. Roll it around the rollers about 2-3 times and go to bed.In the am. take them out and brush your hair with your head hanging down. Brush from the nap of your neck through the full length and flip your head straight up. The you will have body and flip. Best wishes. I have found that the best way to get spiral curls is to take an old shirt that you do not want any more, cut it into in inch think by 5 inch long pieces. first you must have it thinned with a razor, not thinning shears. thinning shears only make it worse. they leave the thickness at the root (whiches makes the hair puff up) and thins it on the ends. then you wonder how your hair got poofy when you just had it thinned. with a razor, you can thin closer to the root and down the section to blend it in better. these next two things are the most important!....you must spend money on a good flat iron. get a chi or the new tigi hardcore flat iron (which is my personal fav) then you must get the "flat iron and shine spray" by tigi. its part of their s factor line. spray each section with this spray before you flat iron each section. it will smoke a little, but thats ok, its burning off excess oil, kinda like a motor does when you spill oil on the engine. you need to spend money on your flat iron, these professional flat irons seal the cuticle as you slide down the section, which makes the hair softer, and shinier. trust me and your golden!

You can't change your hair type, but there are a few things you can do to help it. Get a good haircut that can help thin your hair a bit. You can talk to your hairdresser and tell them what you want, and the can reccomend good products for you as well. Also, if you don't want a haircut I reccomend trying a hair straightener. It makes the frizz smooth down with the rest of your hair, and can make it look much thinner. I had this problem too, and I found that the hairt starightener became my best friend. Recently I wanted a change though, so I got it cut really short.

I envy you! lol I have wavy hair and I CHI it every other day to get it straight!

If it's extremely fine and straight, its gonna be really hard to get it to be curly or wavy. After washing your hair, try towel drying it just for a bit. Then add a mousse made to add body to your hair. Scrunch your hair while distributing the mousse. Use a diffuser blow dryer to dry it. Dont use a brush while drying it, use your fingers instead to keep it from tangling.

Put curl activator in your wet hair. Then, in 2 inch sections, twist all of your hair to make it look like you have dread locks almost.... Spray it with a spray gel and then scrunch it and dry it with a diffuser. A friend of mine does this and it works very well! I hope it works for you!!

Girl, I so have the same problem. This is what I do:

(Use all these products in the exact same order given and you'll get the results you want:)

1) Apply Pantene Texturize Moussing Foam Wax as directed on can. Do it on all your hair. Make sure your hair is completely dry! (This mousse isn't really for holding curls. I've tried it and it DOES NOT HOLD PROPERLY. It tends to straighten out hair better than hold curls.)

2) Shower using Sunsilk Straighten- Up Shampoo and Conditioner. ( It's purple) Before applying the conditioner, remove excess water from hair for best results. Make sure to leave in the conditioner for at least 5 minutes. So while waiting, soap up or sing your favourite song twice.

TIP (After showers, if your hair turns frizzy, blow dry it as soon as you towel dry. Make sure to always comb it.)

Optional: 3) Use a Conair straightener right after you blow dry all your hair completely. Do not use the straightener unless your hair is 100% COMPLETELY DRY.

TIP: If you're in a rush, and want stick- straight hair pronto, use Pantene Texturize Moussing Foam Wax and follow the directions on the can. Your hair will be sort of greasy and less shiny, but it works.

My best suggestion is to try and buy volumizing shampoo and conditioner, and after you are done washing your hair, blow dry it. THE BLOW DRYING IS IMPORTANT! Unfortunately, the one way to do that would be braid it ALL the way to the tippity-tips. Otherwise, your best bet would be to use a curling iron to wave the remaining hair.

A tiny trick I used to use though, is instead of making a nice clean ponytail with the elastic, make a sloppy one, so the hair is all 'caught up' and leaving the elastic in different directions. it bends the hair in different shapes, so it doesn't leave you all straight!

It works, but there are some disadvantages....

For example, if you have thick hair or just alot of it, it takes a while because you are only supposed to straighten so much at a time.

Another, for my hair, the straightener worked but made my hair awfully frizzy, so if you are going use one I recommend a frizz ease serum.

They are horrible! It might be good if your hair is like an inch long. It would take me over 45min to use that thing and my hair was still damp. Not to mention you cant get all the way to the roots, which leaves your roots wet regardless. I literally could hear my hair sizzling, and it was literally breaking off in the straightner. It's just going to damage your hair and it takes way too long. You really have to atleast dry your hair a little bit for it to even be worth while. I'd take it back. You have to pull your hair up and do it in four or five layers or it won't work...And watch your finger b/c if you get them too close to the top the steam will really burn.
