I have really straight hair, it is also really thin. I've tried braiding it and sleeping in the braids, but the waves don't last. I'd like to make it wavy for the whole day, but I don't want to have to go to a salon or anything. Anybody know of anything that can help?
Can I make my straight hair wavy?
i'm guessin that u have poker straight thin as a rail hair:
there r some great products by paul mitchell and citrus shine. but even some normal hairspray from finesse could work too.
hairspray- at night shower and shampoo with a volumizing product. towel dry. take a bit of mousse or a light hairspray and lather into roots. brush your hair out. tussle it so it isnt flattened all together. pull half of it up into a clip or elastic. take the bottom parts by about 1 inch peices or less and blast with firm hold hairspry. scrunh over and over. repeat until u have covered ur entire head u should have used1/4 to 1/2 of the bottle
(yes i no, alot of products, but alot of results!!!) sleep on it and repeat during the morning. mist all over with a gloss or a light misty hairspray. to remove shower with a heavy conditioner. if that doesnt work, leave in for 5 hours with a cap on top. if that still doesnt work, put mayonnaise (yes, i just said mayo!) in a thick layer all over your hair. cover and let sit overnight. rinse.
for a more natural look- mousse:
agaain shower with volumizing products. spritz all through w/ a heat protector and scruncha handful of mousse through ur hair. flip ur head down and blowdry with ur fingers.flip up. if u need to brush it, use ur fingers covered in mousse NEVER WITH A BRUSH OR COMB!!!!! apply some more mousse and scrunch.
to remove- rinse out with strong shampoo
thi method works ok for max 3 hrs. if u need it longer than that use above!!! ok again wash with volumizing products at night. make two frnch bradis with a middle or side part depending how u want it to be the next day. sleep on it. when u wake up, mist with a lite hairspray. remove from braids but do not brush!!! scrunch a little bit of mousse throughout hair.
VOILA! 3 methods to wavy hair
***btw, this also works with thick hair!!!! (just dont use volumizing products and dont flip ur hair down when blowdrying!!!)
hope this help u out!!!

put a mousse on when your hair is wet and make sure you braid it while it is still wet

After you're done showering put mousse in your hair, make sure it's a curl lasting mousse. Once you're done blow-drying your hair crimp it with a hair crimper, and hair spray your hair after you're done. That should help, otherwise you could get a perm.

there are 3-barrol wavers that you can get anywhere.... its like a curling iron, but 3 of them connected and it stays in very well.... My hair is impossible to hold curlsand looks really bad when i try to scrunch my hair, but this holds great. I have the revlon one!!!

I have thin, straight hair also-I have been told by several stylists that I have THE straightest hair they have ever seen. You can try all of the methods mentioned -especially the braid when wet method, but your best bet to keep your hair healthy is to either wear it long and let it be straight (always in style) or cut it as short as YOU like it in a style that will work with straight hair, chin length is great also. If you get a perm make sure they know what they are doing or they can ruin your hair very easily. Get a 'roller perm' (they use perm rollers instead of rods) and a very very very mild solution. If you want to spend less time on your hair let it be straight and get the cut that works with straight hair.
